Carpal Tunnel Treatment http://bit.ly/q9x9bm What is Carpal Tunnel Treatment Required For?
Carpal tunnel treatment is increasingly becoming part of the information age that we now live in. One of the most common inherent requirement of most people’s duties is now computer work, which involves typing at the keyboard and moving the computer mouse around all day long.

Some musicians spend hours playing instruments like the piano or guitar, all of which demands our arms and wrists to be in unnatural positions for much longer than nature desires. The state of our economy also lends itself to people having to turn a lot to the trades: mechanic, plumber, handyman etc all of which demand use, a lot of repeated, strainous use of the wrist and forearms.

Consequences for people who regularly engage in activities like these or those similar to the ones mentioned above, include the irritating (at the very least!) carpal tunnel syndrome. It all starts with the numbness that would be felt sometimes in the fingers or wrists and sometimes even in the forearms.

Carpal tunnel treatment is then the collective processes that are applied to sufferers to alleviate or manage the carpal tunnel syndrome. Unfortunately, the only permanent solution to this has until recently, been surgery, referred to by most as carpal tunnel release.

What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Generally, carpal tunnel syndrome is an inflammatory disorder of the hand and wrist that causes pain and weakness, often associated with repetitive strain on the wrists.

To solve any problem, we first need to understand its manifestation and then through reverse engineering, try and undo it. The hand is one of the most complex machinations there are in the human body, with nerves, tendons, veins, cartilage and bone that are very sensitive to pressure.

The diagram on the top left will make it easier to understand the make up of this problem. Here are the critical players that will help us understand carpal tunnel treatment:

1. The Carpal Tunnel

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway (blue color in the picture) of ligament and bones located at the base of the hand, through which the median nerve, as well as flexor tendons pass.

2. The Median Nerve:

The median nerve (yellow in the picture) is actually the transporter of all sensation and feeling from your palms to the brain.

3. The contact of the above two

Now, as you can imagine, if the median nerves were to be compressed in any way, the sensationary pulses would not report to the brain, leading to non-feeling in the palms or numbness. This would be an equivalent of stoping water flowing through the hose garden, not by shutting the tap, but by simply constricting the hose itself.

As such, the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is then caused by the constriction of the median nerve within the tunnel (area colored red in the picture). This can happen in two ways: either the tunnel in the wrists through which tendons and nerves pass starts to collapse or constrict or the carpal tunnel swells, thus reducing its internal diameter and in the process constricting the Median nerve.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms
The commonest symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome is pain and numbness experienced in the fingers or palm, due to nerve entrapment accompanied by inflammation and swelling of the tissues that surround the carpal tunnel. The othe common symptom is painfulness and/or weakness of the wrist muscles.

Once the innitial symptoms are experienced, it is advisable to consult with a physician promptly to commense with carpal tunnel treatment.

Below is listed a resource that is the best available on the market at the moment, outside of surgery as well as a list of possible options at a sufferer’s disposal.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Causes:
Physical Causes:

Though many cases of carpal tunnel syndrome are because of workplace factors, such as typing without a break for too many hours, it can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism. When hypothyroidism is the cause of carpal tunnel syndrome, the use of armour thyroid should help to relieve both the hypothyroidism and the carpal tunnel syndrome.

Biological (Medical) Cause:

The malfunctioning of the thyroid gland, situated just below the larynx in the throat can lead to many ailments or symptoms to ailments, amongst which is carpal tunnel syndrome. This gland produces the thyroid hormone, responsible for cell growth and their energy and oxygenintake and utilisation.

Hypothyroidism, is when the gland isn’t producing enough of the thyroid hormone, which can lead to, amongst other ailments, carpal tunnel syndrome. Hyperthyroidism on the other hand is when the gland is hyperactive and as such producing a lot more hormones quantities than is required and this can lead to cell overgrowth, commonly called cancer or tumor. Carpal Tunnel Treatment
There are a number of ways to treat carpal tunnel syndrome without surgery. With the understanding from above, the solution, once the two players get into contact with each other either regularly or permanently in some cases, is to separate them.

Again, this can happen in two ways: if the carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by inflammation, the inflammation needs to be removed or alleviated.

Commonly, physicians recommend taking an anti-inflammatory medication and trying to avoid using the wrist if possible. It is however, not always possible to follow this line of advice when typing will still need to happen, lifting and using heavy machinery will still have to happen and playin a musical inatrument for a living will still have to happen.

If the carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by physical activities described in the above sections, then either the physical activities need to be removed or the tunnel be reconditioned. Obviously, this sounds physical, and it is! Hence the tauted long term carpal tunnel treatment has until very recently been surgery, which is expensive and thus inaccessible to a lot of people.

In the case of Hypothyroidism, the indirect carpal tunnel treatment administered would be Armour thyroid, which is used to treat the hypothyroidism itself. The more direct carpal tunnel treatment usually involves resting the hands by using splints (see below) and administering steroid injections.

Below are some of the methods that have been commonly used to alleviate the pain:
Night splits:
The use of night splints is a common management for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Exercises such as stretching and range of motion are likewise very important. Only 2 minutes is needed to perform exercise that help relax the hand muscl.
Wrist Brace:
One contributor to carpal tunnel syndrome may be the wrist angle. Keeping your wrists straight may have a relationship to the health of the carpal tunnel. In most cases, the wrists should not rest on a keyboard while typing. Keyboard wrist rests are intended as a place to rest the hands in between typing. Resting wrists while typing places unnatural stresses on the wrists.

In some cases, using a wrist brace may help to train the body to hold wrists in a more natural position when typing or keying in data. Braces force the wrists to remain straight, lessening pressure on the carpal tunnel as the tendons extend pressure to the fingers.
